How Much Does Squirrel Control Cost?

Squirrel work is priced by the job, not by a standard fee. These are the things that make a quote larger or smaller, and why a survey comes first.

Why prices vary so much

One squirrel in an easy-to-reach loft is a very different job from a family in a high roof with several entry points and damaged wiring. The time on site, the number of visits and the materials needed all depend on what is found. A responsible quote is therefore given after seeing the property.

The main factors

  • How many squirrels are present and whether young are involved
  • The height and access of the roof and loft
  • The number and type of entry points to be proofed
  • How many visits are needed to check traps and finish the work
  • Clean-up of the drey and contaminated insulation

Trapping time

Squirrels are wary and can take time to catch. Traps need to be checked regularly, and the work may take several visits. A quote should say how many visits are expected and what happens if the animals are still active after that.

Proofing and repairs

Proofing is often a major part of the job. Sealing gaps in the eaves, fascias and roof edges may involve working at height, using durable materials and treating several points. If rafters, wiring or pipes have been chewed, repair work may be extra and, in the case of wiring, may need an electrician.

Access and scaffolding

Where the entry point is high on a gable or over a conservatory roof, safe access can add time or require specialist equipment. If access is awkward, tell us at the start so the survey can include it.

A quote that covers trapping but not proofing may look lower at first, but squirrels frequently return through an unsealed gap.

Homes and commercial buildings

Domestic jobs generally involve a single roof and a limited number of entry points. Commercial buildings can include larger roof areas, plant rooms, flat roofs and multiple units, and the work may need to be organised around staff and customers. Commercial service contracts are available where regular roof checks make sense.

Quotes for larger premises depend on the layout and how easy it is to inspect every part of the roof, so the survey is particularly useful here. It shows which roofs, voids and plant areas need attention, and which can be left alone, so you are not paying for work that adds nothing.

If an insurance claim or a landlord is involved, ask for the quote and any findings in writing. Photographs of entry points and damage help support the work you are asking someone to pay for, and keep a copy of the plan so that you can check later that every item was done.

Questions on this topic

Does the cost include proofing?

It should be set out clearly in the quote. Some jobs include sealing entry points, while repairs to damaged timber or wiring may be separate. Ask what is covered so you can compare quotes fairly.

Why can't you give a price over the phone?

Squirrel jobs vary by roof height, number of entry points, how many animals there are and what damage has been done. A survey lets us base the quote on the real situation.

Will I need more than one visit?

Usually yes. Traps must be checked, and proofing is normally carried out once the roof is clear. The number of visits depends on how quickly the squirrels are caught and the work required.
