Hebden Bridge is squeezed into a steep-sided valley, with terraces built into the hillside and water and woodland close by. Pest control here is shaped by that closeness to nature.
Some terraces here are two or three storeys at the front and different heights at the back, built into rising ground. Damp stone, cellar walls and gaps against the hillside suit mice, rats and booklice, and those problems can be hard to spot unless you know what to look for. We check low-level walls and under-floor areas as part of the survey. Damp is also the reason booklice appear.
Woods and moorland around the town mean squirrels, wasps and rodents all have natural habitat very close to the house. Properties by the canal and the river see rats more than others. With many homes and businesses in historic stone buildings, we favour methods that deal with the cause and explain trade-offs openly. Quiet, natural settings often mean wildlife is nearer than people expect.
Tiny pale insects that feed on mould in damp conditions. They are harmless to people but a sign of excess moisture. Treatment helps, but reducing damp and improving ventilation is what stops them returning. Dehumidifiers and airing help.
Yes, we work in older buildings regularly. We choose methods that suit the fabric, avoid unnecessary damage and tell you where proofing may need other trades. If a property has special status, check what repairs may need consent.
Most people never see the pest itself, only what it leaves behind. Here is how to read the clues in your home and work out what you are dealing with before you spend money on a fix.

Read the advice →Pests rarely announce themselves. This guide covers the early warning signs, the damage that follows if they are left alone, and the health and property risks worth taking seriously.
Read the advice →Prevention works better when it follows the calendar. Different pests become active at different times, so a few small jobs in the right season do more than one big clear-out.
