About Cockroaches in South Elmsall

The two most common species of cockroach found in the UK are the German Cockroach and the Oriental Cockroach.

The German Cockroach is the smallest at 10 – 15mm long, has two distinctive stripes and long wings overlapping its body. It carries its egg case (a small brown capsule) until the 30 or more nymphs are ready to hatch.
The Oriental Cockroach is 20 – 24mm long, darker (almost black) in colour with wings that cover two-thirds of its abdomen (male), the wings are undeveloped on the female. It deposits is egg capsule on packaging, sacking or in a suitable dark crevice until the 16 to 18 nymphs hatch out.
Both species of cockroach thrive around heating ducts, in boiler rooms and kitchens of large centrally heated buildings such as hospitals, bakeries, restaurants. They cluster in humid areas, around stoves, pipes and under sinks.

Cockroaches are most active after dark. They emerge from their harbourages in the search for any type of foods, contaminating food preparation areas and any food they come in contact with. Cockroaches can be carriers of many diseases including food poisoning.

Growing in stages from nymph to maturity, the German cockroach reaches maturity in 6 to 12 weeks, whilst the Oriental cockroach takes longer about 6 to 12 months. A cockroach infestation will grow rapidly if not treated early.
Pest Control South Elmsall can eradicate your cockroach infestation and offer recommendations to prevent future problems.
