Ossett's mix of stone terraces from its textile years and later housing means booklice appear for different reasons, from cold walls to cluttered cupboards.
A spare room is often the culprit. In an Ossett terrace the second bedroom becomes a store for things that no one wants to sort out, from old textbooks to bags of paperwork, and nobody heats it. Solid stone walls in the cold lose heat quickly, the air stays still, and a damp coat on the cardboard encourages mould. Booklice then spread through the stack, usually unnoticed until someone goes in to look.
In later housing the equivalent is the landing cupboard, the integral garage or a loft with a poor hatch seal. We begin by opening up the affected space and checking the boxes, shelving and walls, then treat the infested areas and show you how to store things so air can pass. Fully insured and trained technicians visit, and a free survey is available for homes.
Use dry, ventilated rooms, keep items off floors and away from external walls, and choose sealed plastic crates over cardboard where possible. Check stored items occasionally, particularly after a wet spell. Good habits make booklice far less likely.
Look at where they are. One or two near a window might be a passing insect, but a few in a cupboard or around boxes suggest a developing colony. A quick inspection will tell you if anything needs doing.
