Tadcaster is a small North Yorkshire town on the Wharfe with a long brewing heritage, and its older stone buildings often have cellars and stores that stay damp.
Small towns with older stone property tend to have a surprising number of cellars, outhouses and back stores, and Tadcaster is no exception. These spaces were built for cool storage, which is exactly what makes them poor at keeping modern cardboard and paper dry. A box of old files in a cellar corner can host mould and then booklice, long before anyone goes looking for it.
Later housing in the town has more conventional causes, such as condensation in new extensions and bathrooms, or cupboards fitted against cold walls. We inspect wherever the insects have been seen and the rooms around it, treat what is infested and explain our reasoning. Commercial service contracts are available for local businesses, and no call-out charges apply for the visit itself.
Booklice are tiny, pale and live on mould, and they do not bite. Bed bugs are larger, reddish-brown, flat-bodied and feed on blood. If you are being bitten at night, that is a different problem, and we can help identify it.
It still matters. Cellar populations can move upstairs on boxes and furniture, and the damp that supports them can spread. Treating early, drying the space and storing items on shelves or in crates helps prevent it.
