Near the canal and the Calder in Mirfield, tree cover and old stone roofs give squirrels easy access. We trace the route, remove them and seal the entry.
Mirfield stands on the River Calder and its canal, with older stone housing, Victorian terraces and later estates. Waterside setting often means more trees and more cover, and for squirrels that means an easy route onto a roof. We check not only the gaps but the approach: climbing branches, fences and outbuildings. Roofs built a century or more ago may have old mortar and slipped slates that give a patient animal an opening.
Once the entry is understood we plan the work around the property. On older stone houses we look to preserve the look of the roof, choosing discreet proofing. On later estates the fix is often a replacement of a lifted fascia section or the addition of mesh. We remove the animals humanely and lawfully, and clear the nest. The cost depends on roof size, the number of visits and the proofing needed.
It can help, but it rarely solves everything because squirrels jump well and can use walls or fences. Trees may also be protected or owned by someone else, so check first. Closing the entry on the roof is the dependable fix, and cutting branches is a bonus.
We remove the nest material and droppings we find around the work area, and tell you if the insulation is soiled enough to need replacing. We do not claim to refit insulation as part of squirrel work, but we can advise on what is sensible.
