Huddersfield's hillside stone terraces and student housing both suit carpet beetles. We look at the carpets, the furniture and the voids, then treat the larvae.
Many Huddersfield terraces climb steep hillsides with floors on several levels, and stone walls that are cold and thick. Residents run heating and fill rooms with wool, and the combination of warmth, fibre and dust is what larvae like. A bottom-floor front room may be fine while a back bedroom two floors up has damage, so we check each level and the stairs between them.
A large university means plenty of rented property, with furniture moving in and out each year. A second-hand wool rug or armchair can bring larvae in unnoticed, and a house share often has under-used rooms and no one to clear the edges. Property near the Narrow Canal can also have adults flying in from nearby growth. We check, treat what is needed, and give landlords and tenants plain advice.
This depends on the tenancy agreement and where the pests came from, so check the contract or ask your landlord or agent. We can inspect and put findings in plain terms that help both parties decide what is needed.
Inspect it outdoors before it comes in: look at seams, undersides and linings for cast skins and bald patches. Vacuum thoroughly, and avoid placing it against other fabric until it has been checked. Not every item shows signs, so caution helps.
