Between Leeds and Bradford, Pudsey's old mill terraces and later estates both suffer from mice. Here is how we find the way in and remove them.
Pudsey's old stone terraces have lasted well, but stone and lime mortar settle over decades, and small cracks near the base of walls, around gas and water entries and under loose airbricks give mice a way in. They squeeze through surprisingly small gaps, roughly the width of a pencil. Once inside they follow the warm routes behind kitchen units and up through floor voids.
The inter-war and post-war estates have a different pattern. Semis and bungalows often have shared roof timbers, garages attached to the house and sheds close to the back door. Mice nest in garage stores and insulation, then move into the house as the weather turns colder. Our visit covers outbuildings as well as the house itself, because treating one and ignoring the other rarely solves it. Free surveys are available for homes and businesses.
Often within a few days of treatment starting, though it depends on how many there are and whether the entry points are sealed. We usually return to check traps or bait and confirm activity has stopped before closing the job.
Keeping dry food in lidded plastic or metal containers is sensible and helps, but food storage alone will not remove mice that already live in the property. It works alongside treatment and proofing, not instead of it. Sealed storage and a lidded bin make a real difference.

Mice are small, quiet and mostly nocturnal, so you usually meet the evidence before the animal. Here is what to look for and how to tell it apart from rats and other household pests.
