Morley's Victorian stone terraces and later estates have plenty of gaps for mice to use. We check the property, treat the activity and close what we can.
Morley grew around its woollen mills, and the Victorian terraces built for mill workers are solid but old. Pipes enter through stonework that has cracked and been patched over many years, and cellars, if they exist, often have gaps at ground level. Mice use these openings in autumn when they look for warmth. Sometimes the first sign is a smell or a droppings trail along the back of a cupboard.
The later estates south-west of Leeds present a different set of problems. Fitted kitchens, bath panels and boxed-in pipework leave voids where mice can nest undisturbed. We inspect those voids where access allows, and place traps or bait where they cannot be reached by pets or children. If you run a business in the town centre, commercial service contracts are available, and fully insured and trained technicians carry out every visit.
As temperatures fall, mice look for warmth and food, and a heated building offers both. That is why activity tends to rise in autumn. Sealing gaps before the colder months is helpful, but existing mice still need dealing with.
Not if they are already inside, because sealing could trap them indoors. Proofing is most effective after treatment has removed the activity, or alongside it, so we plan the order of work carefully. Doing things in the right order avoids that problem.

Mice are small, quiet and mostly nocturnal, so you usually meet the evidence before the animal. Here is what to look for and how to tell it apart from rats and other household pests.
