Selby's flat, low-lying setting by the River Ouse, with the abbey and older centre, gives mice plenty of cover. We find the way in and clear them.
Selby is a market town in North Yorkshire on the River Ouse, in flat, low-lying country. Open ground, field edges and drainage banks are near many streets, and mice that live there come in as it gets colder. Older town-centre property around the abbey has cellars, thick walls and shared structures. Newer estates have smaller, more repetitive gaps. Seals around pipes often fail first where ground stays wet.
Damp ground can have an effect too: moisture weakens mortar and makes airbricks and pipe seals deteriorate sooner, leaving gaps. Droppings, gnawing and nests are what we look for, together with the routes mice take between nest and food. After the survey we explain the plan clearly. Same-day appointments are available, and commercial service contracts suit local businesses. No call-out charges apply for us to come out and look.
It does not directly cause them, but open fields, ditches and banks close to housing give them cover. Damp can also weaken seals and mortar, so check gaps regularly in colder months. It saves worry on both sides.
We work to suit your opening hours where possible and keep the treatment low-key. Keep stock off the floor and food sealed, and we will explain what is in place so staff know what to expect. Quiet visits are a normal part of our work.
Mice Control across Leeds and Yorkshire · Pest control in Selby
Mice are small, quiet and mostly nocturnal, so you usually meet the evidence before the animal. Here is what to look for and how to tell it apart from rats and other household pests.

Read the advice →Once mice have been cleared, the aim is to stop a repeat. Prevention combines closing gaps, removing food and watching for early signs, and most of it is simple and low effort.
