Garforth's inter-war and post-war housing means a lot of fitted carpet, and edge-to-edge carpet gives larvae long, unseen runs to feed along. We find and treat them.
Fitted carpet is the common thread in much of Garforth's housing, and it shapes how carpet beetle problems appear. The larvae feed on wool and wool-mix pile, backing and underlay, usually along the edges and beneath heavy furniture where no one looks. By the time a customer notices a thin spot in the bedroom, the larvae may have been feeding for most of a year.
In a former mining village that grew into a commuter town, many houses have been extended, re-carpeted and sold on several times, so old underlay or stored rugs can be a hidden food source. We lift carpet edges, check under wardrobes and look at airing cupboards and lofts. If the insects are confirmed, we treat the feeding sites and advise on what to wash, freeze or replace.
Larvae can take months to develop, depending on temperature and food, so damage often shows well after the infestation began. A thin patch today may reflect activity from the previous year. That is why early signs such as cast skins are worth acting on.
Pure synthetic fibres are less attractive to larvae, but they may still feed on wool-mix carpets, dust, hair and nearby natural items. Damage to a synthetic carpet usually means something else natural is close by, which we try to find.
