Older terraces and large post-war estates make up Hemsworth. Both have fitted carpets and wardrobes where carpet beetle larvae feed unseen, and we check them properly.
Post-war estates were often built with one carpeted room after another, and decades of redecorating leave layers of underlay under newer carpet. Carpet beetle larvae can live in that layered material, which is rarely disturbed. A spreading bald patch in a bedroom carpet might be much older than it looks, and the cause might be below it as much as above.
The older terraces in Hemsworth are different again, with some boarded floors and chimney breasts and plenty of cupboards. Wool blankets stored for winter are an easy target. We start with the room that worries you, lift edges, check storage and look at the loft. When we treat, we do so in the places larvae are active, and we leave you with notes on cleaning and storage so you can keep an eye out afterwards.
Larvae feed in a patch and then move to find more food, usually along carpet edges or into adjoining furniture. A circular or growing area is typical. Treatment stops further spread, but existing damage will not repair itself.
Often yes, because larvae and eggs may remain in the floor edges, underlay or furniture and can attack the new carpet. Treating before replacement, and cleaning the area properly, gives the new carpet a better chance.
