Keighley's stone terraces and moorland-edge homes are cool, solid and full of wool. Carpet beetle larvae thrive on exactly that, and we can track them down.
Cold weather leads people in this part of the Aire valley to layer up with wool: heavy rugs, thick curtains, blanket boxes. Those are textiles that carpet beetle larvae relish. In a stone terrace the larvae may start behind a sofa or beneath a bed, feed on carpet pile and lint, and spread to stored woollens in an upstairs cupboard before anyone notices.
Houses on the moorland edges often have lofts and outbuildings close by, and old birds' nests or dead insects in roof spaces can feed a small population. Keighley's housing stock makes loft checks worthwhile. We inspect the room with the damage, trace the larvae outwards, and treat only where they are active. You get a plain account of what was found and what to wash or replace.
They do not bite or sting, and they are not known for spreading disease. Hairs from the larvae can irritate skin or cause itching in some people. The main concern is damage to fabrics, carpets and stored items.
As soon as you see cast skins or fine damage. Larvae feed over many months, and delay means more fabric lost. Early action usually limits both the spread and the amount you need to wash, clean or replace.
