Where the Rochdale Canal meets the Calder, Sowerby Bridge's terraces rise up steep valley sides. Carpet beetles can follow wool and dust through them.
Terraces here climb the sides of the valley, often joined wall to wall in long rows. Larvae can move between neighbouring properties through shared floor voids and roof spaces, which is why a customer who finds damage in a hallway may be dealing with a source further along. Fluff, hair and old insect remains in these voids provide a standing food supply that never needs replacing.
Mill buildings by the canal and river have been converted into flats and workspaces with plenty of soft furnishings, which can add to the supply. We begin each visit with the damaged item, then work outwards: neighbouring rooms, cupboards, the loft and any shared voids we can see. The quote depends on the property, the extent of the problem and the number of visits, and no call-out charges apply.
If the signs point to a shared void or an adjoining house, telling them is helpful. Larvae and adults can cross between properties in terraces, and treating one house may not stop reinfestation. A tactful word is often better than silence.
Usually not. Treatment is applied to edges, gaps and affected areas, and some carpets may be lifted at the edge so we can reach underneath. We tell you in advance what to expect, and only remove carpet if the damage is extensive.
